UNDERCURRENT

Culture and music are the undercurrent that carries our common humanity

As part of Malmö Live’s theme year, focusing on music and health ”Hälsoåret”, photographer Petra Bindel (b. 1975 Ängelholm) has created the exhibition Undercurrent that points out the value of individuals connected to culture. Using her unique ability to communicate feelings and storytelling in photography and video, here she aims to visualize how cultural experiences can provide a person with a new perspective which, in some cases, can be life changing.

Water stirred by a wind.
A tear within a hidden flame.
Earth mirrored in space.
All these changing faces.
Elements of the self.
Reflections.
Portals that change an inner state.
Where one circle meets another.
In the dance of the dervish,
Whirling
Circulating
Spinning
Transforming
Poison into nectar.
Curses into blessings.
Broken into whole.
While anticipating the return of the exiled.

A homecoming of the soul.

The whole creation is a weave. Movement within flow.
Light within darkness.
A cloud in a clear sky.

A wave in a rough sea. The breath within air.

A track in the sand.

The many within the one.
It is the song of the universe.
