Fanny & Peter

”Our apartment is a jumble that has landed in a warm, relaxed and ever changing home through a constant warfare and reconciliation of wills and expressions.”
When interior designer Fanny Dorthé talks about the home she shares with her husband, artist Peter Schamaun, and daughter Elsi, it almost sounds like a poetic description of a family life in general. At least of what one wants a family life to be; filled with warmth - and inevitably a lot of compromises.

”Both me and Peter have very definite opinions about how things should be and somewhere where we meet is usually the best result.”
Where they meet undeniably feels warm and cozy, a home full of art and books and beautiful wooden furniture made by Fanny's father, carpenter Claes Dorthé. Every piece in the home has a history and is there for a reason.

”A lot of our inspiration comes from our upbringing” says Peter. ”My family has a great interest in art, objects and ceramics. Fanny's father is a furniture designer and her mother is an architect. We look at our home a bit as a compilation of stories from several generations. My mother's flea market raids, my father's interest in art collecting and Claes' furniture are as much a part of our home as we are. Sometimes I feel like we're curating their history. We have the first tableware my mother ever bought as our breakfast tableware and the first chair Claes built is in our living room.”

”But then we also often do things based on instinct” Fanny continues. ”If we want to do something, we try it out. Sometimes it turns out well and sometimes it’s a disaster. In our home, we dare to try what we do not always dare to in our professional life. Our home is constantly changing. And it does not matter if it feels a little wrong, but we make sure that it feels free and unforced.”
